It all started 20 years ago. EMERGO Partners is a group of colleagues working together since 2001, teaching skills to move from the pain of conflict to peace in our lives, relationships and communities. Coming from two continents and different cultures, we met because we shared common values and interests. We have decided to team up, put ourselves out there and share our collective expertise. We offer the gems of our learning based on what our thousands of trainees and clients from all over the world found most useful and valuable, bridging two continents and a pot of cultures.

Martha M. McManus

Mobirise

I celebrate love, joy and peace personally and universally. I’m more of a peace-waker than a peacemaker.

I am a counsellor, coach, mediator, educator and basic all around peacemaker. I offer talks, workshops and individual support on a variety of topics. Like a caterer lays out a variety of dishes that meet your interests and desires; I have a diverse selection of topics, processes, concepts and exercises to suit you and your group. I think people themselves have their own wisdom.

At Emergo we will work together to create something uniquely designed for you.

Martha M. McManus MA, MA, MPHIL founded the Conflict Resolution and Communication Centre in Calgary in 1987. She is a teacher, speaker, trainer, coach, researcher, consultant, and a mediator, with government, industry, organizations and educational institutions across North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia.

As a teacher and curriculum specialist at the Mount Royal University since 1994, she has developed course material for Introduction to Conflict Resolution. She has also worked with Siksika Blackfoot Nation. Abroad, she has taught mediation and negotiation courses to undergraduate and graduate students in the UK, and trained International Medical Corps and UNICEF in Baghdad and Bashrah in the war-torn Iraq. She has also consulted with Government Ministries, front line teachers, police, social workers and lawyers who are committed to making Iraq a better place.

Martha is a Rotary World Peace Fellow of 2002-2004, sponsored by the Centennial Club and the author of Understanding the Angry Child: Coping Strategies for You and Your Child.

Currently a Human Rights and Anti Racism educator at Alberta Civil Liberties and Research Centre, consultant at Mount Royal University and Conflict Transformation consultant at International Medical Corps, Martha is looking forward to sharing her experience through the Emergo initiative.

Martha is a learning addict: her curiosity about life and people drives her toward lifelong learning. She has taken courses at Willamette law school’s conflict resolution program, Harvard negotiation project, and Violence Prevention program at Harvard, in addition to having three Masters Degrees: Masters degree in counselling Psychology- Gonzaga University, MA and MPhil University of Bradford UK as a Rotary World Peace Fellow.

Martha’s current study interests are: resilience with children at risk and resilience in communities. She is also writing a new book. She enjoys walking her dogs, staying fit and is proud to volunteer at bingos. She is a member of the District Youth Exchange Committee, and youth protection officer / youth exchange coordinator for the Centennial Club. She also earned the Paul Harris Fellowship in 2011, presented at Lethbridge East Rotary.

The year 2013 was a big year and one of the proudest for Martha. This was the year when she embraced an opportunity to donate one of her kidney’s to a woman whose kidneys had failed while she was getting a new heart. “Easy to do and no problems after. Life changing for the recipient.”

McManus has received numerous awards, including being selected in 2002 from thousands of global applications for the inaugural group of Rotary World Peace Fellows. A true global citizen, she is also a proud mother of three grown sons, with a household of several well-loved dogs.

Simona Aradei-Odenkirchen

Mobirise

I started as a journalist, moved on in Public Relations and ended up as an expert in Communication and Conflict Management, which is what I love to do. I found out that with these skills there are so many ways I can help people around me, from individuals to organisations and communities. I learnt that if just given a chance and a hand, most people will find a way out of their conflicts. My final dream is that one day I will have the chance to work in post-conflict areas.

Life took me from the East to the West of Europe and I had the chance to use my experience as a trainer, expert and coach in different set ups and environments. But I still have more questions than answers and I am keen to learn more every day. Along the way I had the chance to meet and work with extraordinary people.

Emergo is for me reaching out to people from all over the world and sharing with them our knowledge and experience. My Emergo partners have a unique way of teaching and coaching with joy and fun.

Simona Aradei-Odenkirchen is a long-time consultant and trainer for communication, mediation, conflict resolution, interest-based negotiation techniques, organizational development, project cycle management and has extensive experience in Romania, Republic of Moldova and Central Europe. She is a certified mediator and cross-border mediator for international family conflicts. Member of the 'Cross Border Family Mediators' as well as of MiKK e.V. Germany – International Mediation Center for Family Conflict and Child Abduction. She also works as Guardiam ad Litem in Germany.

Apart from working as a trainer, consultant and coach, Simona was involved in designing and managing projects. She is permanently animated by finding new ideas and solutions which can help individuals and communities. She founded and coordinated the first Romanian Community Mediation Center in 2000. She introduced new ways of approaching and solving labour conflicts and also introduced the peer-mediation model in schools. The projects she managed also aimed at the reforming and decentralization of state administration and various public institutions or promoting interdisciplinary cooperation and work in multinational teams, including youth welfare, victim assistance, prisoner assistance, protection of vulnerable minorities (Roma communities). She is experienced at fundraising for projects and worked with PHARE, European Fund, DFID, DANIDA, OSF, ABA CEELI, World Bank etc.
